✦ A COLLECTION OF CURIOSITIES ✦
Down the Rabbit Holes
Curiosity has a funny way of leading somewhere unexpected.
I’ve never been particularly good at having just one interest.
Give me an intriguing question, an old photograph, a forgotten story, or an interesting idea, and there’s a very good chance I’ll disappear down a rabbit hole to see where it leads.
Some of those rabbit holes have become professional pursuits. Others have turned into passion projects. A few are simply things I love exploring.
Here are some of the places my curiosity has taken me.
🌳 Genealogy & Connections
Discovering the stories that connect us.
I’ve spent more than twenty years exploring family history, and I’m still fascinated by the discoveries waiting in historical records and family trees.
Through my work with WikiTree, the International Institute of Genealogical Studies, and the Global Cohesion Centre, I explore genealogy as both a research discipline and a way to better understand our shared humanity.
It’s remarkable how quickly strangers can become cousins when you start following the connections.
✉️ Mail Call WWII
Every letter has a story. Every story has a person behind it.
Mail Call WWII is my growing archive of original letters, photographs, and personal histories from the Second World War.
I’m especially interested in the everyday experiences of people whose lives intersected with extraordinary events.
Through projects like The WWII Neighborhood and War Day by Day, I’m working to bring those stories out of their boxes and back into the world.
📚 Books, History & Other Obsessions
There’s always another book. And another question.
I’m an enthusiastic reader and lifelong learner with a particular fondness for history, biography, and the ideas that shape societies.
One book inevitably leads to three more, which leads to an entirely new subject to investigate.
My reading lists tend to multiply faster than I can finish them. I consider that a feature, not a bug.
✦ On My Nightstand ✦
Currently Down the Bookish Rabbit Hole
Because apparently reading one book at a time isn’t enough.
The Bees
Laline Paull
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Maya Angelou
Book and Dagger
Elyse Graham
This little stack changes regularly. The number of books waiting to be read, however, only seems to grow.
✍️ Writing & Storytelling
Because some discoveries deserve to be shared.
I love finding interesting stories and figuring out how best to tell them.
Sometimes that means exploring historical lives through letters and documents. Sometimes it’s an essay, a newsletter, a creative experiment, or the beginnings of a much bigger idea.
I’m especially drawn to stories that help us see familiar things differently.
🎨 Creative Adventures
Not every rabbit hole needs a practical purpose.
I enjoy experimenting with creative ideas, new technologies, and projects that make me smile.
Some become ongoing adventures. Others are delightful little detours.
I like having room in my life for both.
The Next Rabbit Hole?
There’s always another project waiting just around the corner.
I don’t know exactly where curiosity will take me next, but that’s half the fun.
Stay curious. You never know what you might discover.
